You might have seen some of these cars customized; even so, they've never been as popular as other cars. I started by sketching a stock '54 Buick then started thinking about some cool-looking modifications. My aim was to create something elegant and low, but simplify the look, because I think originally there is a bit too much of everything. To me, the most disagreeable parts of the original design are the rear fenders and taillights. I wanted to get rid of the rear fins. As you might know, '56 Pontiacs have quite similar ones. I don't like those fins either, but they had nice straight side trim (after removing the diagonal part in the front door). I don't know how easily it converts to the Buick body; it might need some cutting and welding. With the fins removed, the fenders are extended and the rear bumper was moved backward. It doesn't get much simpler than '52 Buick hubcaps-they are one of my favorites and look even better in restyled wheel openings. The front end is quite stock with only some basic shaving needed on the hood, door handles, and portholes. The top is chopped slightly for better flow. I cut about two inches from the A-pillars and a bit more from the rear, keeping the panoramic windows, which are popular in Finland, where I come from. The color is dark metallic purple. The interior could be finished in white or light grey pearl leather. The profile version has frenched headlights and retains the rear fender side scoops. A lot of these ideas can be applied to other mid-Fifties GM products, such as the '56 Pontiac I mentioned earlier.
